STOP DWI Program

(Program)

* Operates a program aiming to prevent impaired driving in a model that includes: arresting those who drive while under the influence of alcohol; swift adjudication of individual cases; certain and severe punishment for those convicted; and publicity for the arrest and prosecution efforts. Includes the following activities:
  • DWI Victim Impact Panels - Victims/survivors speak to DWI offenders every six to eight weeks.
  • Law Enforcement - Selective enforcement units patrol at peak hours in high-risk areas.
  • Prosecution - Special prosecution unit in the Oneida County District Attorney's Office handles all DWI cases. 
  • Probation - Officers within the Oneida County Probation Department are responsible for coordinating all DWI cases. 
  • Evaluation and Treatment - Evaluates and treats offenders convicted of DWI and related offenses.
  • Community Awareness and Education - Community awareness and education presentations for all interested groups, including elementary, high school, and college age level groups and all other community organizations.
  • Additional administrative programs to prevent intoxicated driving.

Eligibility: Call for information.

Application Process: DWI Victim Impact Panel: Offenders can be sentenced by the court, a condition of probation, or other means. Call to register.
